As our nation continues to unfold the ramifications of systemic racism that surrounds us, we struggle with how to respond. There's no quick answer to such a complex issue. This inequity is a part of our history as a people that we cannot hide, and to ignore is to go against the will of Christ which is “to unite all things in him.” (Ephesians 1:10).
As a first step to understanding and dismantling racism in our lives, work, and personal relationships, we invite you to join us for the 21 Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge.
Creating effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of power, white supremacy and leadership, is like any lifestyle change-we have to work at it. Setting intentions and adjusting what we spend our time doing is essential. It’s all about building new habits. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. The good news is, there’s an abundance of resources to share and an entire family of faith to accompany you. Debby Irving, author of "Waking Up White," and Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. have formulated a 21-Day Action Plan designed to quickly introduce people to new ideas and perspectives, as well as some guidelines for engaging across privilege and power dynamics.
For the next 21 days--choose one action per day in order to develop and/or deepen a racial justice practice built on education and engagement.
Feel free to forward this email and invite friends and family to join this challenge; a community approach can expand us beyond our usual comfort zones and increase shared learnings. We encourage you to participate in the following ways:
