Music at Fairmount

The goal of Fairmount’s music ministry is to unite the congregation in worship and in song, singing our theology, sharing our experiences, and celebrating our future.

We want to ensure all who experience the ministries and missions of the church are inspired by the gift of music. Everyone is welcome as we recognize the broad participation by all ages within our congregation, from preschool to adults.

For over a century the music ministry at Fairmount Presbyterian has committed to high quality, well-rehearsed, theologically sound music.  We're realizing a vision of ministry that offers diverse music that holds the best of our tradition, while expanding the circle of music that is considered sacred.

Traditional church music and hymnody are offered right alongside a variety of styles which enhance our worship: jazz, gospel, classical, world, bluegrass, contemporary music and more.  Our instrumental support includes organ, piano, strings, bells, brass, woodwinds, percussion and guitars.

We encourage you to get involved! Music is an essential component to an active and vibrant faith, and beautifies the human experience.

Adult Choir rehearses Thursday evenings from 7:30pm-9pm in the Choir Room.

Fairmount has a rich tradition of singing quality choral music, and this season we’ll be exploring worshipful music from a variety of times, genres and styles. The ability to match pitch is helpful, but no formal experience is necessary - we’ll provide support in part-learning and confidence building - so all you have to do is show up!  It’s a wonderful opportunity to release the stress of the week, enjoy fellowship, and encourage one another with truth through music.

The Fairmount Choir performs on Sunday mornings during the 11:00am worship service, and for several others events here at Fairmount throughout the year.

  • Fairmount Bellchoir

The Fairmount Bellchoir is a group of roughly 14 ringers. We’re always looking for more to join us as we have a full 5 octaves of handbells and 4 octaves of handchimes! We affectionately call ourselves the “Ding-a-Lings” as we like to make beautiful music, but also have fun.  The only prerequisite for joining is the ability to read music and we welcome all to join “our team”.

Rehearsals will be Thursday evenings, 6:30-7:30 pm, in the Undercroft of the church. The ensemble plays roughly once a month.  In addition, we are often asked to play during the holidays at venues around the city, such as Severance Hall (pre-Christmas Concert entertainment) and  the Botanical Garden (“Glow”).

For more information, please contact Amy K. Carlson, Handbell Director, at 216.978.7445 or via email, acarlson@key.com.
