In the summer of 2023, Rev. Carmen joined the Fairmount staff as our new Parish Associate for Matthew 25. Rev. Carmen received her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Ursuline College and her Master of Divinity degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary where she was the only African American student selected by the National Presbyterian Church’s Office of Theology and Worship to participate in its Excellence from the Start Theological Scholars, a four-year program. Rev. Carmen was ordained to the Ministry of Word & Sacrament by the Presbytery of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2002.

Rev. Carmen served as the Senior Pastor of St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church in Beachwood, Ohio, from February 2012 until her retirement in December 2022. Prior to returning home to Ohio after seminary, Rev. Carmen served several churches in Pittsburgh, PA: Bethesda United Presbyterian Church, Bidwell United Presbyterian Church, Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church, and the Mt. Hope Community Presbyterian Church.  Rev. Carmen served as past Moderator of the Presbyterian of the Western Reserve and continues to serve the Presbytery and the National Church in other capacities. Additionally, Pastor Carmen has served several communities throughout her  pastorate.

Pastor Carmen is a proud mother, grandmother, and companion to Silk and Egypt, her cats! She enjoys cooking, music, watching mystery movies, and serving as a Red Coat volunteer at the Connor Playhouse. She is fascinated with anything about outer space!
